Cartridge filters technical information
Cartridge filtration equipment for drinking and wastewater treatment is one of the most common systems for water purification and filtration. They have a simple and intuitive operation that competes with multimedia sand filtration systems, and the appropriate filter must be selected for each project.
The filtration process of industrial cartridge filters is as follows:
The water enters through the inlet into the filter, where the number of cartridges of the selected model (usually 3-5-9) are installed on the connection brackets. These cartridges, made of polypropylene, have a filtration degree of 5 microns which prevents the passage of most of the suspended solids in the water, sending the filtered water to the outlet and capturing all the particles on the surface of the cartridge.
When the inner cartridges of the filter have become saturated, this will result in an increase of the internal pressure which can be checked on the pressure gauges, when it exceeds 0.7 bar this will indicate that the cartridge filters should be replaced by new units.
Application of industrial cartridge filters
Like the filtration systems using activated carbon and sand filter beds, water filtration using cartridges is applied in a wide range of industrial sectors and installations.
The main fields of installation are:
- Filtration of well water by cartridges before entering industrial reverse osmosis plants in order to protect the membranes.
- Final treatment of water with high concentration of solids by means of a filtration of 5 microns absolute, guaranteeing the reduction of any solids larger than this size.
- Installations where there is not enough water to carry out the backwashing of the filtering beds and therefore cartridge filters with their respective spare parts must be used.
- Filtration of water entering machinery, boilers and other industrial installations that need to be protected from suspended solids.
Technical characteristics of IMA Water cartridge filters
IMA water PVC cartridge filters are designed in an efficient and simple way to obtain the highest filtration quality with minimum maintenance.
All the equipments have been designed according to the European standards for pressure vessels and can withstand working pressures up to 6 bar.
All the elements used for their manufacture are specially designed to withstand corrosive and aggressive waters, avoiding their deterioration in their different applications.
Installation and start-up of an industrial cartridge filter
The standard installation of a cartridge filter is extremely simple.
First of all, the inlet and outlet connections of the filter must be connected to the existing connections at the installation site.
Next, the top of the filter is opened to insert the filter cartridges into the internal guide tubes, fitting them correctly to prevent leakage. The number of cartridges to be inserted depends on the model of industrial filter selected.
